Michael has been teaching acting for twenty-four years, in Vancouver, New York, Los Angeles, at ALRA and the renowned Actor's Centre in London, and at the national theatre schools of both Australia (NIDA) and New Zealand (Toi Whakaari). Many of his former students are leading actors in Australia and New Zealand, and some are in Hollywood, including Cate Blanchett.
Michael graduated with a BFA in Acting from the University of British Columbia in 1983. He is one of the creators of the Vancouver TheatreSports League, has won two World Championships for comedy improvisation, and in 2007 represented Canada at the Chicago Improv Festival.
He has acted and directed around the world, including stints at the BBC in London, and the Queenstown Shakespeare Festival. He has ten international awards for television direction, most recently a BAFTA for Serious Arctic (2005).
