VFS Alumni Shine at the Leo Awards

By VFS Web Team, on June 16, 2015

Now in its 17th year, the Leo Awards continues to recognize the incredible talent of the B.C. film and television industry, and there is no better time to celebrate. Local artists are producing stellar work and the industry is booming better than ever.

We are very happy to jump on the celebratory bandwagon and share some VFS alumni success with all of you. Many of our graduates were nominated in a variety of categories, proving, once again, that they are entrenched in the creative community and making a serious impression.

You may or may not remember a blog post about Violent, a film produced by Film Production grad Josh Huculiak, his brother Andrew, and cousin Joseph Schweers. The film, a dream project for the team, swept VIFF, winning Best Canadian Film ($8,000 cash award) and Best BC Film ($10,000 development bursary). Violent continued its winning streak this past weekend and took home eight awards, including: Best Visual Effects (Marc Whitelaw, 3D Animation + Visual Effects grad), Best Picture Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Direction, Best Screenwriting, Best Musical Score, Best Casting, and Best Motion Picture. Needless to say, it's an incredible artistic achievement.

VFS grads won eight other awards at the Leo Awards (and too many nominations to list here).
