Job Scope

Reporting to the Senior Instructor for Directing and the Head of Department, the Instructor will provide professional, expert and experience-based education to VFS students within the Film program. The Instructor must be able to work within the existing curriculum of the program to integrate with the projects-based education VFS is rooted in. The Instructor will also provide regular and transparent feedback to students on every project and assignment.

Core Responsibilities

  • Working from a course syllabus and participating in developing lesson plans detailing what will be taught and how the course material will be delivered.
  • In consultation with other staff, develop innovative mechanisms to teach often-difficult techniques.
  • Work closely with the Department Head and Senior Directing instructor to ensure class curriculum is accurate, up-to-date and communicated to students in a clear and concise manner.
  • Provide students with guidance in issues relating to Film Production.
  • Instruct students on the various technical processes employed during preproduction, production, and post production as it relates to Directing.
  • Provide students with regular feedback.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • Feature film Directing credit(s) and education in a post-secondary setting.
  • Experience working with and teaching students is advantageous.
  • Ability to function in workshops, lectures and seminars.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • A good sense of humor.
