Job Scope

We are looking for a Full-time (40 hours/week) Senior Instructor for Acting with a focus for the contemporary Film and TV Actor for our VFS Acting Programs One Year Acting for Film + TV diploma program, 4-month Essentials, and our online Connect classes. This Senior position is a mix of teaching, leadership and administration to support our year-round programs. This role not only supports the students overall journey but also guides and mentors the acting instructional team; leads & develops core acting curriculum, supports innovation and helps shape policy. The experienced Instructor has a wide range of knowledge in various core Acting techniques, as well as a deep understanding of the acting processes including exercises, text analysis, scene study, ensemble work and integration. Our goal is to mentor empowered, embodied actors, deeply connected to their full process skills and techniques, who can create a wide range of memorable performances on and off screen.

The Senior Instructor brings acting knowledge and experience to the team and possesses a strong sense of commitment, support and responsibility to the success of the overall vision of the Acting program. They will help create and deliver the VFS model of education with a culture of inclusion, respect, exploration, imagination, discovery and critical thinking. Core Responsibilities

  • The Senior Instructor is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the programs; with focus on the student experience and acting curriculum, course materials & resources management.
  • Deliver acting curriculum with experience and knowledge from professional work & training
  • Work closely with staff members to create a culture of diversity & inclusion, respect, exploration, imagination, discovery, and critical thinking that supports the positive development of the actors instrument aligned with the overall vision of the Acting program. 
  • Provide students instruction in a respectful, inclusive, professional, positive learning environment to achieve exceptional learning outcomes.
  • Lead assigned program scope as well as curriculum improvements, development and innovation for on campus and online courses; guiding the student experience with support for the hourly team of Instructors. 
  • Utilize Moodle learning system for grading, attendance, assignments, & lesson support materials
  • Be punctual and conscientious with class management
  • Collaboration with acting administration staff on all program elements including resources requirements
  • Ability to work across the organization as necessary for events, marketing, and collaborations with other departments.
  • Attend staff and team meetings

Job Qualifications

  • Post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree and at least 3 years industry experience or 10 years of industry/professional experience.
  • Demonstrate a high caliber of professional work.
  • Prior post-secondary teaching or administrative experience is preferred.
  • Understanding of the learning profile of young adults entering the film and acting craft & industry.
  • Diverse experience in various modalities, styles and genres in acting for film, TV, web, voice, improv and/or theatre is an asset.
  • Experience leading workshops, lectures, and seminars.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of current industry/actor education trends and evolution
  • The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Moodle and Zoom.
  • Experience or ability to teach other acting topics is an asset (on camera acting, audition, movement, voice, scene study)
  • Background check required as this role works with students and youth
