Vancouver Film School (VFS) and Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (UPB) have created a scholarship fund to empower aspiring Latin American creatives in their academic journeys. Full and partial-tuition scholarships are available for select VFS programs, with start dates in 2025.

WHAT'S AVAILABLE

  • One (1) full-tuition (100%) scholarship* and two (2) partial (50%) scholarships for each of the following VFS programs:
    • 3D Animation & Visual Effects (12 months)
    • Film Production (12 months)
    • Game Design (12 months)
    • Programming for Games, Web & Mobile (12 months)
    • Digital Design (12 months)
    • Makeup Design for Film & Television (12 months)

Application deadline: October 27, 2024, at 10 p.m. COT.
Winner announcement: November 22, 2024.
 

IMPORTANT NOTE: A minimum of 30 applications per program are required for each full (100%) scholarship.
IMPORTANT NOTE: All VFS-UPB scholarships must be applied towards VFS tuition and have no redeemable cash value.
 

Who is Eligible to Apply?
 

The scholarship is open to the following UPB students and alumni across all cities/campuses:​

 

School of Design and Architecture:

UPB students who are currently in their 5th semester (or further) in the following undergraduate programs:

  • Graphic Design
  • Costume Design
  • Industrial Design

School of Engineering:

UPB students who are currently in their 5th semester (or further) in the following undergraduate programs:

  • Digital Entertainment Design Engineering
  • Systems and Computer Engineering

School of Social Sciences:

UPB students who are currently in their 8th and 9th semester in the following undergraduate programs:

  • Social Communication and Journalism
  • Advertising

UPB Alumni/Graduates:

UPB graduates who have received their undergraduate or graduate diploma titles within the past 5 years in any of the following programs: Social Communication and Journalism, Advertising, Graphic Design, Costume Design, Industrial Design, Digital Entertainment Design Engineering, & Systems and Computer Engineering.

Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana

Founded in 1936, the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana offers 77 undergraduate, 24 masters, and seven doctorate programs to a nationwide student population of 30,000 students. The university features the first video game design program in Colombia, and also specializes in law, communications, fashion design, and medicine.

Scholarship Information

 

 

Thank you for your interest in applying for the opportunity to win a full-tuition scholarship to the 3D Animation & Visual Effects, Digital Design, Game Design, and Programming for Games, Web & Mobile programs at VFS.

 

You must complete/submit the following to apply:

  1. The VFS-UPB scholarship application form at the bottom of this page. 
  2. A clear copy of government-issued photo ID that includes your legal name and date of birth.
  3. Two letters of recommendation that include the contact information for your references. References should be able to comment on your creative ability, work ethic, ability to take criticism, ability to work in a team environment, and previous accomplishments.
  4. A resume detailing your work history and education (in English).
  5. UPB transcripts (in the native language) for all completed courses.
  6. A cover letter (500-750 words, in English) addressed to “VFS-UPB Scholarship Committee” explaining why you feel you deserve this scholarship. Outline exactly how this scholarship will benefit your career and why it will help you succeed in the entertainment industry.
  7. A link to a video (in English) and with a maximum length of 60 seconds. The video must be posted on YouTube or Vimeo and be accessible via direct link.
    1. Begin by stating your name.
    2. Give a brief statement explaining why you want to apply to the 2024 VFS-UPB Scholarship and how receiving the scholarship would benefit your career.
    3. Briefly summarize your strongest creative project; in the case of team projects, please specify your role.
       
  8. If English is not your native language, you must submit proof of your English proficiency, which can include any of the following (credentials must be valid at the time of submission). More information on VFS language requirements is available at https://vfs.edu/international-admissions:
    1. Duolingo English test score of 120 or higher
    2. TOEFL PBT score of 550
    3. TOEIC score of 785
    4. IELTS (Academic) Band 6.5
    5. LPI Level 5
    6. B2 First (formerly Cambridge English: First (FCE)) – Grade A
    7. VEC (Vancouver English Centre) Articulation Agreement Level 12
    8. IB English score of 5 or higher
    9. Transcripts from an English-speaking high school or an accredited English-speaking post-secondary institution

 

IMPORTANT NOTE: Scholarship winners must pay the $150 CAD application fee if they accept the scholarship.

IMPORTANT NOTE: These requirements are mandatory, without exception. All documents (except transcript) must be in English and total files cannot exceed 10MB.

 

  • Applications will be accepted until October 27, 2024 at 10 p.m. COT. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Winners will be announced on November 22, 2024. Late submissions or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  • The 2024 VFS-UPB Scholarship applies only to the 3D Animation & Visual Effects, Film Production, Programming for Games, Web & Mobile, Game Design, and Makeup Design for Film & Television programs at VFS and cannot be applied to any other VFS program.
  • Full scholarships must be redeemed for any of the following start dates in 2025 only:
    • 3D Animation & Visual Effects: March 3 

    • Film Production: March 3 

    • Game Design: May 5 

    • Programming for Games, Web & Mobile: September 2 

    • Makeup Design for Film & Television: May 5 

    • Digital Design: May 5 

  • Partial scholarships must be redeemed for any of the following start dates in 2025 only: 
    • 3D Animation & Visual Effects: March 3, May 5, June 30, or September 2 

    • Film Production: March 3, May 5, June 30, or September 2 

    • Game Design: May 5 or September 2 

    • Programming for Games, Web & Mobile: September 2 

    • Makeup Design for Film & Television: May 5 or September 2 

    • Digital Design: May 5 or September 2 

  • All materials supplied with the application will not be returned.
  • Applicants must be at least 19 years old at the time of application.
  • The selected winners will need to send their portfolio required by VFS for the program they have selected. You can learn more about the portfolio requirements for each VFS program at www.vfs.edu.
  • If selected, the applicant must cover their flight, accommodation, meals and international insurance (assess approximate cost of living in Canada). Given the intensive nature of VFS's programs, it's unrealistic for you to plan to work while studying your year at VFS.
  • If selected, the applicant must complete an online VFS application and any program portfolio requirements.
  • Applicants who have already been accepted into a VFS program can apply for this scholarship; however, this scholarship must be used singularly and cannot be used in combination with any other bursary or scholarship already received. Previous applicants must re-submit their application with a completed scholarship application form.
  • Scholarships will be awarded based on the applicant’s talent, creativity, discipline, and focus, as well as the selection criteria outlined for this scholarship. Applicants must meet all admissions requirements.
  • The judging committee will consist of faculty and representatives from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana and Vancouver Film School.
  • Employees and contractors of scholarship providers, media partners, and members of the scholarship selection committee and their spouses or immediate family members are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
  • If the winner cannot commit to attending VFS for any reason within two weeks of being notified that he or she has been selected to receive a scholarship, another scholarship winner will be chosen.
  • The winning recipients will be required to maintain a weekly blog that captures and illustrates their experience in attending VFS. All setup and hosting costs will be covered by VFS.
  • VFS reserves the right to cancel each full-tuition scholarship if there are less than 30 applicants per scholarship.
  • The committee decision is definite and final.

Vancouver Film School reserves the right to cancel this competition at any time, at its sole discretion, in the event of any administrative conflict or error. Vancouver Film School reserves the right to modify the rules of this contest in any way or at any time as long as reasonable notice is given. This competition is void where prohibited by law and is subject to all applicable Federal, Provincial, State, and local laws and regulations.

Acceptance of a scholarship allows Vancouver Film School to use your name, photograph or likeness and testimonials in print, broadcast or online media in perpetuity, in any manner in which VFS may deem appropriate in connection with promoting this competition or any other competition or promotion sponsored by VFS, without further compensation.

By participating in this competition, you agree that Vancouver Film School, members of the Selection Committee and those involved in the development, production, implementation and distribution of this competition and their respective parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, service providers, and agencies and their directors, officers, agents, employees, attorneys, and any other person or entity associated with such entities and/or this compassion (hereafter collectively called the “Sponsors”) are not liable for any claims, damages, losses or injuries, including third party claims, arising from or relating to, in whole or in part, this competition, including your entry and participation in this competition, the submission of your application package, the evaluation of your application package, acceptance, use or misuse of the scholarship or any injury to you or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from downloading or receiving via return e-mail any part of this competition information.

You further agree that you will not hold Vancouver Film School, their affiliates, subsidiaries, directors, officers, agents, employees, attorneys, and any other person or entity associated with Vancouver Film School liable for any claims, losses, damages or injuries, arising from or relating to their use of your name or address for mailing and any other promotional materials. You also agree that in the event of any third-party claims, damages, losses or injuries arising from or relating to this competition, you will indemnify Sponsors from any and all such claims, including the attorney’s fees related thereto. Sponsors shall not be liable for applications that are delayed, lost, misdirected, miss- delivered, marked postage-due, illegible, mutilated, incorrect or incomplete and such entries will not be eligible for this competition.

This scholarship has no cash value.
