What Are My Other Options?

If you have not taken one of the above tests, or feel that your skill has improved since you took the test, you can meet our conversational requirements by taking a telephone-based test with VFS Admissions staff. To arrange for a test, please contact your Admissions Advisor. Some programs require writing abilities at a higher level, or more industry-specific langauge than can be indicated by the above tests. To satisfy writing levels required for some programs, we may ask for additional written submissions.

We realize that you may have to plan ahead in order to secure your seat at VFS, and that you may want to start applying before you've met the required conversational or written level of English. Our Admissions Advisors understand ESL issues and are more than willing to help you meet all language requirements to make sure they do not get in the way of your dream.

If you don’t pass an approved test or the VFS-conducted test, you may be accepted on a conditional basis. If you receive conditional acceptance, you must provide regular feedback to your Admissions Advisor on specifically what you are doing to improve your English before you start your course at VFS (e.g., attending ESL classes). Additionally, you must schedule and pass either an approved test or the VFS-conducted test no later than one month before your start date, or risk having your enrollment postponed or cancelled.

Study Permits

All of VFS’s programs require international students to obtain a study permit. You must apply for your study permit at the Canadian Consulate or Canadian Embassy for your area, before your program starts.

To get a study permit you must provide:

You'll need to present the original acceptance letter from Vancouver Film School and proof of deposit.

The letter needs to show that there are sufficient funds in your account to support you while you're studying, including full tuition fees.

Your passport must be valid for the duration of your program.

Be sure to include the VFS’s Designated Learning Institution (DLI) number on your study permit application: O19239015912. Please note, the first digit in the sequence is the letter “O”, and not a zero.

You'll need to apply for coverage before you arrive in Canada, and it must cover you for your first three months in British Columbia. After three months living in BC, students can qualify for BC’s Medical Services Plan (MSP).

It is recommended that you purchase international medical insurance before you arrive in BC. You can buy medical insurance from a private insurance company from your home country, or from Intercon Insurance Services Limited, which has an agreement with VFS to offer discounted rates to our students.

INTERCON INSURANCE

  • Intercon coverage can be used for injury or sickness requiring Emergency Hospital confinement or Emergency Treatment for up to CDN$2,000,000.00.
  • You must be a student of foreign nationality
  • You must not be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant
  • You must be enrolled in and attending a recognized institution of learning (Vancouver Film School)
  • CDN$1.89 per day per person.
  • CDN$56.70 per month per person.
  • CDN$170.10 for a 90-day policy.

Using these rates, international students in our full time programs can expect to pay up to a maximum of CDN$680.40, depending on the length of insurance you request.

(Note: Rates and information quoted on this website are subject to change without notice.)

For more information, please contact Intercon's VFS representatives:
