About The Program

What is the VFS-University Pathway Program?

Graduates from all VFS 1-year Diploma programs are eligible to transfer into degree programs at UFV as of January 2018. Numerous pathways exist, each with different requirements. Please explore the 'Show me my path' function to select your diploma/degree pathway choice, and this will inform you of the minimum number of credits a VFS graduate needs to complete a corresponding UFV degree credential. The actual number will vary dependent on student choices.

About University of the Fraser Valley:

Located in the beautiful Fraser Valley just east of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) is a fully accredited, public university that enrolls approximately 15,000 students per year. UFV has campuses and locations in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission, Hope and Agassiz, and a growing presence in Chandigarh, India.

UFV is large enough to offer variety, and yet small class sizes allow you to get to know your instructors and learn in a hands-on environment. We offer more than 100 programs, including two master’s degrees, 15 bachelor’s degrees, majors, minors, and extended minors in more than 30 subject areas, and more than a dozen trades and technology programs.

VFS-University of the Fraser Valley Pathway Program

VFS graduates can now select accelerated arts-focused degree paths into the Bachelor of Media Arts (BMA), Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), Bachelor of Arts (BA), and Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) at the University of the Fraser Valley. These degree pathways offer remarkable value in terms of credit transfer/advanced standing, and a corresponding UFV degree can be obtained in as little as 3 years when studying full time.

You must be a VFS student in order to apply for the VFS-UFV Pathway. Confirmation of graduation will be needed in order to finalize admissions under the UFV-VFS Block Transfer Agreements. Applications are accepted for entrance to the Fall, and Winter semesters for all programs, and Summer semesters for the BA and BGS only. For application deadlines, see Specific intake application process.

October 1
Fall intake opens for following September. International students must apply by April 1. Domestic applications will be accepted into May.

May 1
Winter intake opens for the following January International students must apply by October 1. Domestic applications will be accepted into October.

October 1
Summer intake opens for the following May. Please note, not all programs have a summer intake. International students must apply by February 1. Domestic applications will be accepted into February.

Letters of acceptance cannot be issued by UFV until the intake for which you are applying has opened and you have applied. UFV commits to initial review of international applications within a maximum of 10 business days. If all required academic documents are uploaded with the application, a conditional admit could be emailed to the student within approximately 2-3 weeks. Because domestic applicants do not upload documents with their applications, the timing of their conditional admit will depend on when their official Vancouver Film School transcript is received.

This conditional admit letter will list the tuition fee deposit required, the official documents/transcripts required by a certain deadline, or other relevant completion requirements to be admitted to a semester. Once the fee deposit is paid and the official interim transcript is received from VFS, UFV can issue the LOA which does reflect the pathway partnership and duration of degree completion (2 years).

UFV provides this once the initial admissions request is received. All students who apply to UFV are given a UFV student number and an email address. Conditional acceptance is communicated through the UFV email system and can be shared with external bodies. If further information is needed, this can be acquired through the Office of the Registrar.

Students who graduated in 2016 or 2017 are eligible to enter UFV under the established pathways. Students who graduated from VFS prior to 2016 would be reviewed on an individual basis.
