Whether you have prior training in a related field or no experience at all, our entry-level workshops have everything you need to take meaningful steps towards enhancing your creative skill set for post-secondary study and your professional development. Developed by VFS’s team of industry professionals, our workshops are perfect for those looking to build their portfolios, top up their skills, or even make a career change.
* Upon successful completion of a SHORT-TRACK workshop, the cost can be deducted from any full-time Advanced Production program tuition at VFS. Only one discount may be applied. Contact a VFS Advisor for eligibility.

Makeup for Camera: Day to Night (on-campus)
This makeup workshop in Vancouver is designed for actors who want to learn to apply their own makeup for auditions and self-tapes, as well as all other professionals looking to acquire makeup expertise to be camera-ready. Unlike simple, “trendy” makeup tips often found at department stores, the focus of this workshop is tailored to specific makeup application for public appearances and on-camera appearances.
- Identify and apply best practices of self-application techniques for foundation
- Apply colour correction techniques and learn to balance facial features
- Identify and analyze areas of correction required on your face
- Learn how to apply a “Day Makeup” routine
- Learn how to convert “Day Makeup” to an “Evening Makeup” look
- Gain a thorough knowledge of products in order to effectively source essential makeup items
- Gain a full understanding of how to build a substantial & effective makeup bag
- A notetaking device (video/audio recording will not be permitted)
- Please bring a water bottle, lunch, and a snack
- It is recommended that students bring their own makeup, including brushes (whatever you have readily available). If you do not have your own makeup, VFS will have select products for you to use. However, the more you are able to bring, the more immersive your experience will be.

Makeup: Fantasy Character Prosthetic Application (on-campus)
Enter the world of advanced character creation! In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to apply a professional-quality foam latex prosthetic using a bold, fantasy-inspired color scheme.
We'll begin with a live demonstration covering the full application process, painting techniques, and a detailed overview of the materials & products used in the industry. After the demo, it's your turn! You'll be provided with all the tools & materials needed to complete your own prosthetic makeup application, under expert guidance.
This intermediate-level class is perfect for makeup artists looking to expand their skills in special effects and fantasy makeup.
- Better understand the professional techniques involved for an effective application of a foam latex prosthetic
- Learn safety practices with various products & techniques
- Gain product knowledge of adhesives, removers, and makeup paint products
- Discover how to create a layered paint scheme with various products
- Learn safe removal & clean up practices
- A hand towel, for clean up (VFS will provide cleansers)
- A lunch, snacks, and/or beverage
- A model, for application of makeups (after lunch):
- Allergies or highly sensitive skin may prevent individuals from participating as models
- If you are unable/do not wish to bring a model, you will apply all makeups on yourself (great practise for cosplay artists!)

Note: All painting will be done by hand and spatter brushes. You may also bring in any of your own products & tools – but no airbrushing will be permitted.

Participants are required to have some general makeup experience (specific experience with latex prosthetics is not required).
