Meet the Head of the Acting Program
Meet Omari Newton, Head of the program and Actor (Netflix’s The Dragon Prince, Blue Mountain State, Far Cry 6), as he explains how VFS’s Acting program trains artists to bring characters to life, how you’ll experience acting for feature film, television, animation, & games at this event, and how VFS students are evolving this craft. PLUS, Omari will lead a Voice Acting workshop on Unleashing Your Voice – an elementary lesson in building dynamic, original characters through diction, enunciation, and breath control.
Industry Roundtable – The Craft of Voice Acting
Omari Newton will host an esteemed panel on The Craft of Voice Acting with Netflix’s Emmy-winning The Dragon Prince – hailed as “a captivating fantasy adventure” and currently at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. Actors Sasha Rojen (Ezran), Paula Burrows (Rayla), Jason Simpson (Viren), and Jesse Inocalla (Soren) will join us in-studio to discuss the process of voice acting, their experience working on a hit animated Netflix series, and more.
Acting for the Green Screen with Sara Canning and Aleks Paunovic
VFS alum and Actor Sara Canning (War for the Planet of the Apes, Vampire Diaries, Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events) and 8-time Leo Award-nominated Actor Aleks Paunovic (Disney+’s Hawkeye, Syfy’s Van Helsing, War for the Planet of the Apes) will host an insightful discussion on Acting for the Green Screen. This is your chance to learn from two industry veterans how green screen acting was used in War for the Planet of the Apes.
Experience How Motion Capture Brings a Performance to Life
VFS houses Beyond Capture – a 64,000 cubic foot performance capture stage where film, TV, and game scripts are brought to life by motion capture actors (like in Mike Flanagan’s The Fall of the House of Usher, for example!). See this in action through a live demo led by VFS Acting faculty and Beyond Capture staff. Watch as a script is performed on camera and discover how motion capture magic transforms your performance in real time.
A True TV Sitcom Room Experience
This is your chance to live your ultimate fantasy! Get live action experience on our classic VFS-built set and run a scripted scene with other attendees. Led by our Acting faculty, this exercise will give you first-hand experience of the high-pressure, exciting nature of sitcom life.
