Whether you have prior training in a related field or no experience at all, our entry-level certificate courses have everything you need to take meaningful steps towards portfolio development for post-secondary study and your dream career. We welcome enthusiasts, high school students, mature students, and anyone looking to make a career change. Developed by VFS's team of industry professionals, these certificate courses will give you insight into what the Game Design program at VFS can help you achieve. When you finish a certificate course at Vancouver Film School, you will receive a digital certificate of completion confirming your experience.

 

*Upon successful completion of this CONNECT certificate courses, the cost can be deducted from any full-time Advanced Production program tuition at VFS. Only one discount may be applied. Contact a VFS Advisor for eligibility.

Introduction to Game Art (on-campus)

This certificate course will take you through the basic modeling pipeline and have you create your own realistically textured prop. It is intended for artists who are interested in learning 3D art for games, regardless of previous experience. You will model and texture 3D artwork In Maya and Substance Painter, two professional software tools used by game artists in the industry. You will also focus on efficiency and performance that are vital for game art. By the end of this intensive course, you will understand the basics of the 3D modeling game art pipeline: modeling low and high poly, UVs, baking, and texturing.

 

  • Learn the fundamentals of using Maya and Substance Painter.
  • Demonstrate the basic pipeline of high and low poly modeling, UVing, texturing, and baking.
  • Showcase a 3D model and textures that can be exported into a game engine.
  • Create a render to showcase a 3D model.

 

 

  • Students must be 16 years of age or older at the start of the course.
  • A basic technical proficiency with a computer is needed in order to get the most out of the class.

 

Students are expected to be comfortable navigating and using basic features of 3D game engines.
