  • The model reflects the needs and growth of the industry and mirrors how modern studios operate, combining remote workflows with in-person production training.

The creative industries are evolving, and so is the way that artists train for them. At Vancouver Film School, we’ve introduced a new Hybrid Production Model designed to meet your training needs – without compromising our signature hands-on, production-based experience. Whether you’re in Vancouver or studying internationally, this offers a more flexible way to train at VFS.

Available now for VFS’s 3D Animation & Visual Effects, Animation Concept Art, Game Design, Digital Design, and Writing for Film, Television & Games programs (with more to follow), this flexible, industry-aligned model is built to reflect how creative careers actually operate today. Read on to learn what this means for future students.

A TRAINING MODEL THAT ALIGNS WITH THE EVOLVING INDUSTRY

Film and television production are growing. In a recent report by The Hollywood Reporter, the publication cites the latest economic report from the Canadian Media Producers Association which shows that production in Canada is rebounding in a big way. Foreign production spending has risen to over $5.3 billion, with major studios like Netflix, Amazon, Disney+, and Apple doubling down on hubs like Vancouver and Toronto.

Even after industry-wide disruptions, the evidence shows that production isn’t slowing down, it’s evolving. Studios are embracing hybrid and remote workflows, collaborating across various time zones, and hiring talent who can adapt to this production setting.

That shift demands a new kind of training model, one that mirrors how studios are actually operating right now.

THE ADVANTAGE OF VFS’S HYBRID MODEL

The future belongs to creative thinkers who practice hands-on and collaborate in production environments – while also learning & embracing the rapidly-developing technologies used by the industry and changing how productions work.

VFS students access THE VFS ADVANTAGE. This is something you won’t get at any other school:

Production Facilities Matching Industry: You’ll create & collaborate in a real studio environment from day one, working with industry-level tools in pro-grade spaces – including a professional motion capture stage, a green screen room, black box studios, & more.

Unmatched Industry Integration: Many schools offer only one program/discipline. At VFS, you’ll work alongside students across various programs, giving you the full scope of a production pipeline.

Much Greater Opportunities for Cross-Program Collaboration: We’re a school that the industry comes to first. VFS works directly with the industry to ensure you train to current, real-world standards, and we shape our curriculum and Production Centre to what’s going on in the industry right now.

Simply put, VFS’s Hybrid Model offers expanded ways for aspiring creatives to train on their own terms.

VFS’S ALUMNI SUCCESS

VFS alumni work on the industry’s top projects – including Project Hail Mary, Zootopia 2, Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters, and Oscar-winner One Battle After Another – as well as at leading studios like Netflix, Sony Pictures Imageworks, Hulu, Apple, A24, and 20th Century Fox.

At the 2026 Oscars and Golden Globe Awards, more than 400 alumni were credited on recognized projects.
