These gigs put their VFS training to the test, while helping them build up their networks early. Past collaborations include the SickKids ad with Ryan Reynold’s Maximum Effort and two in-arena cinematic videos with Vancouver Canucks – all of which were filmed (in-part) on-campus at Vancouver Film School.
Most recently, Canadian rapper, singer, & songwriter bbno$ brought his latest music video, “why am I like this”, to VFS’s production centre. 25 VFS students and alumni worked across production and post, helping bring this video to life.
Released on March 6, 2026, you can watch the video below:
BEHIND THE SCENES OF ‘WHY AM I LIKE THIS’
Shot primarily in VFS’s production center between February 9-12, the production tapped into Vancouver Film School’s full creative ecosystem, filming in our 280-degree green screen studio, with additional scenes captured in one of our film studios. Across every department, VFS students and alumni stepped into real-world roles, contributing both on set and in post-production to help create the video.
What stood out most was the team’s work ethic. The art department, in particular, went above and beyond – painting, installing, and tearing down full fly walls for a single shot, an enormous lift that didn’t go unnoticed. These alumni were personally selected for their talent, dedication, and positive attitudes, and they exceeded expectations, showing up with the kind of professionalism and collaboration you’d expect on any industry set.
