3D & VFX Careers: Animator, Prop Modeler, Character Modeler, Compositor, Lighting Artist, Roto Artist, Rigger, Surfacing Artist, Technical 3D Artist. 

Upon completion, the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to:
  • Bring characters and objects to life using foundational animation principles
  • Utilize various tools and technologies to craft, capture, and animate elements effectively
  • Engage in the planning and execution of VFX shots
  • Develop and execute animation sequences with authenticity and believability
  • Employ basic cinematography principles to enhance animation sequences
  • Harness storytelling skills to craft, refine, and execute compelling animation sequences
  • Apply performance theory to enhance the expressiveness and realism of animation
  • Present visual concepts effectively to target audiences
  • Demonstrate proficiency in computer skills and digital asset management within a production pipeline
  • Compile and present a demo reel or portfolio meeting industry standards, showcasing creativity and proficiency with relevant animation software and technologies
  • Model and rig objects, characters, and background elements proficiently
  • Light and composite objects, characters, and sets using appropriate tools and techniques

Admissions Requirements: 

Students should be familiar with some digital art software, which can include Photoshop, After Effects, Procreate, Blender, or Maya.

3D Animation & VFX Fundamentals is a 16-week online preparatory program designed to teach the core building blocks of 3D animation and visual effects. Through hands-on training with industry-standard software, students learn foundational skills in modeling, texturing, lighting, compositing, rigging, cinematography, editing, and visual storytelling.
The program emphasizes understanding the production pipeline from concept to completion while building a starter portfolio to support entry-level career opportunities or further specialized study in animation and VFX.
This program is ideal for aspiring animators, VFX artists, and digital creatives who want to break into the world of animation, film, television, or gaming. It’s suited for beginners or career-changers who already have some basic familiarity with digital art or creative software and want structured, industry-driven training to turn that interest into practical skills. Students preparing for advanced animation programs or seeking a strong creative foundation before entering the industry will benefit most.
Applicants should have some familiarity with digital art or creative software. Acceptable tools include programs such as Photoshop, After Effects, Procreate, Blender, or Maya (or similar platforms).
For English language proficiency, applicants whose first language is not English must meet Level 1 of VFS’s ESL Requirements, which can be satisfied through a range of recognized ESL tests as outlined on the VFS International Admissions website.
If English is not your first language, you must submit eligible test scores that meet VFS’s minimum language requirements; for applicants who do not yet meet these requirements at the time of application, you may receive conditional acceptance. Once you meet the required English proficiency, you will be given full acceptance and be able to begin the program.
