Vancouver Film School’s Creative Essentials Workshop Day is an opportunity for aspiring and emerging creators to test the limits of their creativity – led by faculty from VFS’s industry-leading Digital Design and Foundation Visual Art & Design programs. If you’re curious about the creative industries or looking to take the first step in your creative training – this is the opportunity for you!

You’ll meet faculty, tour our state-of-the-art production center, experience workshops in design thinking & sketching concepts, and participate in a film shoot. Professional Motion Designer and VFS Digital Design Senior Instructor Nour Al-Amoudi will lead you through a workshop that will show you how to think beyond what “looks good” – thinking instead of how you can lend your skills and creativity to solve problems and connect messages to audiences.

Join VFS Instructor Chad Costen on-set for an exclusive hands-on film production demo. Assume a crew role and experience how the director, lighting team, and camera operators work together to film an actor in front of a projected background. Your introduction to Design Thinking is also your introduction to VFS’s Digital Design program – which trains powerful creative designers to communicate, create experiences, solve problems, and drive sales using design thinking, creativity, & digital tools. The program goes beyond simple graphic design, shaping students into the architects of websites, apps, interfaces, and the motion graphics seen in broadcasts, ads, and live events.

This is an exclusive in-studio experience that gives creates the chance to be a VFS student for a day! Design to be immersive and hands-on, the event aims to give creatives a chance to learn more about themselves and experience the creative process led by professionals.

This event is ideal for anyone who knows they are creative but aren’t sure yet how they might fit into entertainment production and/or digital design. Whether you’re exploring drawing, graphic design, animation, or film – there’s lots for you to explore. Come in with an open mind, ready to try something new, and you might discover a new creative passion.

 

4. What can I expect during the event? 

You’ll experience interactive demos and workshops including crewing on a film set. You’ll see how professionals use creative processes and tools to push their ideas and innovate. Light food and drinks will be provided while we showcase student work and provide information about the programs. You’ll walk away with new creative tools and tricks, a better sense of your own potential, and hopefully some new friends.
