About the Workshop Thought Leaders:

Colin Giles, Head of Faculty, VFS School of Animation & VFX

Recently awarded the “#2 Global Animation & VFX School” by Animation Career Review Magazine, Colin Giles is the Head of the VFS School of Animation & VFX, bringing over 22 years of professional experience as a Director, Animator, and Creative Designer. Colin’s work in animation and storytelling has allowed him the chance to work with some of the biggest names in the industry, including: The Cartoon Network, Ford Motor Co., The NBA and Starbucks, to name a few. But for Colin, his ultimate professional highlight was also a childhood dream come true when he got the chance to bring Mickey Mouse to life and animate for Disney Interactive.  When he’s not busy in the classroom with students each week, he’s active on many popular industry projects as well.  His recent work on Seth Rogen’s animated hit Sausage Party has become somewhat legendary among his fans and friends! In 2017, Colin was an official speaker at TEDx Vancouver and delivered an incredible talk about a brilliant historic name the creative world had often overlooked.

Michal Makarewicz, Animation Director – Disney/Pixar

Considered among the very best Animation Directors in the world, Michal Makarewicz has been an Animator at Disney/Pixar Animation Studios for over 13 years. Passionate about animation and creative storytelling, he has been a critical part of some of the biggest box office successes in animation history. Whether you saw his talented work on The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille, Wall-E, Toy Story 3, Brave or Inside Out, or his more recent work as Directing Animator on Cars 2 and Finding Dory, he has been attached to some of the most iconic and box-office record-breaking animated films of all time. Michal loves to teach as much as he loves to animate and works closely with creative students and professionals around the world who attend his special seminars. Most recently, Michal was the Supervising Animator on Toy Story of Terror and is currently very proud to be working hard finalizing this summer’s hugely anticipated Disney/Pixar release, Toy Story 4.
