Iconic ad man Frank Palmer to award a full-tuition scholarship and personal mentorship, and up to $250,000 in additional partial scholarship funding to the most creative students hoping to attend Vancouver Film School’s Digital Design program.

Scholarship Details

  • One student will be awarded a full-tuition scholarship to study Digital Design at VFS and will be mentored by Frank Palmer himself.
  • Honouring Palmer’s 50 years in marketing, VFS will also award up to $250,000 in partial scholarship funding for up to 50 shortlisted finalists.
  • Students need a high school diploma and must provide creative samples for evaluation.
  • The scholarship opens on October 21, 2019, and closes at 12:01 a.m. on December 1, 2019.
  • Shortlisted finalists will be announced shortly thereafter.

Why VFS Digital Design

The VFS Digital Design program will see you apply your artistic vision to the widest spectrum of digital experiences for web, mobile, and tablet platforms, from gaming to broadcast mediums.

Specialize in motion, interactive, or graphic design and execute successful projects that consider current trends, technology, and consumer mindshare. You will collaborate with thought leaders, work directly with clients, and partner with industry mentors to envision new design directions, emulating a digital agency experience.

As traditional media transitions to online platforms, the demand for digital design professionals is exploding, with 600,000 designers generating US$46 billion in global revenue as of 2018.

    • Link to your portfolio. Link to your portfolio. Show us your artistic talent! Do you have any creative or artistic work samples that might relate broadly or specifically to creative design? Include links to anything you might want us to consider. (Examples of acceptable submissions could include: art drawings and samples, napkin sketches, pictures from your portfolio, links to your online work or digital portfolio, doodles, etc.)

We recommend Dropbox or Google Drive for easy review by our scholarship selection committee. Upload your files then “share” using the share link. When sharing, set the sharing permissions to “public” or “anyone with the link can view the file/document.

If we cannot view your files your scholarship application will be considered incomplete.

    • In 100 words or less, tell us why you want to be a creative designer?
    • Vancouver is considered one of the best cities in the world to live, but it’s also an expensive city compared to many others. We inform every applicant that it can cost you at least C$30,000 a year for basic food, travel, and accommodations. This scholarship will only cover your school tuition costs. Tell us in your words how you plan to be able to make this opportunity work for you financially for 12 months.
