With the Emmy buzz from last week’s long-awaited award ceremony, we are thrilled to announce Vancouver Film School alum Darla Edin was personally nominated for her makeup artistry on Daisy Jones & the Six, alongside four other Makeup Artists on the team. The other hit series in this category were House of the Dragon, Stranger Things, The Mandalorian, Dahmer, and Emmy-winner The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. This is an incredible achievement (imagine being able to put Emmy-nominee on your resume), but not the first time Darla has been an award-winner!
Turning back the clock to 2012, Darla competed in three of the Character/Prosthetic Student Make-Up Competitions at the International Make-Up Artist Trade Show (IMATS) the same year she graduated from VFS’s Makeup Design for Film & Television program. She brushed away the competition by placing first in Los Angeles and Toronto in 2012 and received Third Place in Los Angeles in 2013.
Fast forward to 2015, Darla competed and won season 8 of the reality television competition series Face Off. This elimination competition tests the techniques of a group of makeup artists every week as they create a character using full body makeup and prosthetics. She created a range of fantastical creatures including aliens, a ballerina, Jack of Hearts, a troll, an eerie porcelain doll, and a slew of magical creatures.
Since then, Darla has been working steadily as a Makeup Artist for film and television. She recently worked on the already award-winning 2023 sports drama The Iron Claw, starring Zac Efron and The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White. Other credits include Renfield with Nicholas Hoult and Nicolas Cage, the true crime drama Black Bird, and Looking for Alaska, the TV adaptation of John Green’s beloved novel.
With Darla’s success on the rise, we have no doubt this Emmy nomination will be the first of many awards to come.
