(VANCOUVER, B.C.) April 4, 2026 – Vancouver Film School (VFS) is proud to announce the launch of its new Hybrid Production Model, a flexible and accessible approach to creative training that reflects the evolving needs of both students and the global creative industry.
The Hybrid Production Model is currently available for the following VFS programs:
3D Animation & Visual Effects, Animation Concept Art, Writing for Film, Television & Games, Game Design, and Digital Design, with additional programs to follow.
While the curriculum remains unchanged, the new model introduces alternative delivery options for select portions of each program, combining online learning with VFS’s signature on-campus, production-based experience. This approach ensures that students continue to receive the same industry-aligned education VFS is known for, with greater flexibility than ever before.
The Hybrid Production Model divides the applicable programs into three modules, summarized below:
Module 1: Fundamentals
Available online (3 months) or on-campus (2 months), this module allows students to explore their chosen discipline, build foundational skills, and determine if the career path is right for them. Curriculum reflects Term 1 of the program.
Module 2: Production Studio
Delivered exclusively on-campus over 6 months, this module represents the core of the VFS experience, where students collaborate in a studio environment and build a professional-level portfolio. Curriculum reflects Terms 2-4 of the program.
Module 3: Studio Collaboration
Offered online or on-campus (4 months), this advanced module focuses on high-level, portfolio-ready projects designed for students preparing to enter the industry or elevate their existing skills. Curriculum reflects Terms 5-6 of the program.
With entry and completion points at each module, students now have the flexibility to tailor their education based on their goals, experience level, and availability. Students may choose to complete individual modules (*prerequisites required) or progress through the full program, with each stage offering a certificate of completion and all three culminating in the standard VFS diploma.
The Hybrid Production Model is designed to meet students’ current needs, offering greater flexibility for those balancing work or other commitments, and the ability to progress through training at a pace that aligns with their individual circumstances. By allowing students to begin their training remotely or in modules, the model can help reduce upfront financial pressure while providing more time to plan relocation to Vancouver. For many, this also creates an opportunity to start their training closer to home, easing the transition into an intensive, production-focused learning environment.
This model is particularly well-suited for students at different modules of their personal and professional journeys – from those exploring a new creative path, to those unable to relocate immediately, to international students seeking more flexible entry points into Canadian education.
“Vancouver Film School has always been deeply connected to the needs of the industry, and that means continuously evolving how we deliver education. The Hybrid Production Model allows us to maintain our hands-on, production-focused training while creating new pathways for students around the world to access it. As the industry continues to change, both in how content is created and how people learn, Vancouver Film School is committed to evolving alongside it.”- Jonathan Bell – Managing Director, VFS
VFS’s Production Centre remains central to the student experience, offering access to professional-grade facilities including a motion capture volume, green screen studio, black box set, industry-standard labs, and collaborative production spaces. Combined with increased flexibility and accessibility, the Hybrid Production Model represents the next evolution of VFS’s industry-leading approach to creative education.
