2024 VFS-IBERO Scholarship

 

 

Train for your industry career in Film or Animation in just 1 short year in Vancouver, Canada!

 

Vancouver Film School (VFS) and Universidad Iberoamericana CDMX (IBERO) have partnered to create a scholarship for aspiring creatives to train for their industry career at a world-leading creative school. Full and partial-tuition scholarships are available for select VFS programs, with start dates in 2025. 

This scholarship is open to all IBERO students and alumni who meet the requirements for international study in Canada.

WHAT'S AVAILABLE

One (1) full-tuition (100%) scholarship* and two (2) partial (50%) scholarships for each of the following VFS programs:

  • 3D Animation & Visual Effects (12 months)
  • Animation Concept Art (12 months)
  • Film Production (12 months)

Application deadline: January 17, 2025, at 11 p.m. CDT
Winner announcement: February 4, 2025.
 

*A minimum of 29 applications per program are required for each full (100%) scholarship. All VFS-IBERO scholarships must be applied towards VFS tuition and have no redeemable cash value.

Scholarship Information

You must complete/submit the following to apply:
1. The VFS-IBERO scholarship application form at the bottom of this page.
2. A clear copy of government-issued photo ID that includes your legal name and date of birth and/or a valid passport that expires no sooner than 180 days from the completion date of your VFS program.
3. A resume detailing your work history and education (in English).
4. IBERO transcripts (in the native language) for all completed courses.
5. A link to a video (in English) and with a maximum length of 60 seconds. The video must be posted on YouTube or Vimeo and be accessible via direct link.

 a. Begin by stating your name and that you are applying for the VFS-IBERO Scholarship. Include the IBERO program you are currently enrolled in or have completed, and your VFS program of interest (from the three available options).
b. Give a brief statement explaining why you are applying for the VFS-IBERO Scholarship and how receiving the scholarship would benefit your career.
 c. Briefly summarize your strongest creative project; in the case of team projects, please specify your role.

6. If English is not your native language, you must submit proof of your English proficiency, which can include any of the following (credentials must be valid at the time of submission). More information on VFS language requirements is available at https://vfs.edu/international-admissions
a. Duolingo English test score of 120 or higher
b. TOEFL PBT score of 550
c. TOEIC score of 785
d. TOEFL iBT - score of 80
e. IELTS (Academic) Band 6.5
f. LPI Level 5
g. VEC (Vancouver English Centre) Articulation Agreement Level 12
h. IB English score of 5 or higher
i. Transcripts from an English-speaking high school or an accredited English-speaking post-secondary institution
 
NOTE: In order to apply for this scholarship, you must be in good academic standing at IBERO and not have any disciplinary reports on your permanent record. Scholarship winners must pay the $150 CAD application fee if they accept the scholarship. These requirements are mandatory, without exception. All documents (except transcripts) must be in English and total file size may not exceed 10MB.
The deadline to apply is January 17, 2025, at 11 p.m. CDT. Winners will be announced on February 4, 2025. Late submissions or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
All scholarships for each program must be redeemed for one of the following start dates in 2025 only: May 5, June 30, or September 2.
Individuals who have applied for any VFS scholarship in the last two years are not eligible to apply.
Applicants who have already been accepted into a VFS program can still apply for this scholarship; however, this scholarship must be used singularly and cannot be used in combination with any other bursary or scholarship already received. Previous applicants must resubmit their application with a completed scholarship application form.
Applicants must be current bachelor’s degree students or have graduated from IBERO during/after 2021.
Scholarship recipients must cover the IBERO accreditation fee (if applicable).
Scholarship recipients must meet all requirements to study abroad in Canada.
Any materials submitted with the application will not be returned.
Scholarships will be awarded based on the applicant’s talent, creativity, discipline, and focus, as well as the selection criteria outlined for this scholarship. Applicants must meet all admissions requirements.
The selected winners will need to send their portfolio required by VFS for the program they have selected. You can learn more about the portfolio requirements for each VFS program at www.vfs.edu.

a. 3D Animation & Visual Effects: Samples can include life (preferred), still, or character drawings, and 3D computer work. Maximum 12 pieces total. 
b. Animation & Concept Art: Samples can include still-life drawings, life drawings, character or environment sketches, and computer artwork (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.). Maximum 12 pieces total. 
c. Film Production: Write a synopsis of a film project that you are passionate about making (no longer than one page). Provide the film genre and utilize references to other movies to explain how you would make the film. Explain the concept, vision or idea. In addition, provide a 1-page (maximum) outline of the story.

If selected, students must complete and send: 
         a. A VFS online application.
         b.Two letters of recommendation from IBERO faculty that include their phone number/alternate phone number(s), e-mail address, and relationship to you. References should include comments on your creative ability, work ethic, ability to take criticism, ability to work in a team environment, and previous accomplishments.  

If selected, the student must cover their flight, accommodation, meals and international insurance (assess approximate cost of living in Canada). Given the intensive nature of VFS's programs, it is unrealistic for you to plan to work while studying your year at VFS.
Employees and contractors of scholarship providers, media partners, and members of the scholarship selection committee and their spouses or immediate family members are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.
If the winner cannot commit to attending VFS for any reason within two weeks of being notified that he or she has been selected to receive a scholarship, another scholarship winner will be chosen.
The winning recipients may be required to maintain a weekly blog that captures and illustrates their experience in attending VFS. All setup and hosting costs will be covered by VFS.

 

• VFS reserves the right to cancel each full scholarship if there are not a minimum of 29 applicants per program.

• The committee’s decisions are final and irrefutable.
