What better way to begin the new year than with the return of Vancouver Film School’s Future Scholarship! This is the second year VFS is offering this scholarship fund (valued at over $150,000!) for students to train for their dream careers in film, animation, game, tech, and beyond. There’s never been a better time to pursue a career in the creative industries, as, according to Forbes, the creative economy is currently worth an estimated $985 billion.
Three lucky scholarship applicants will be chosen to enrol in their choice of program from VFS’s School of Animation, School of Film & Television, and School of Games & Creative Design. This is an incredible chance for aspiring creatives to gain the necessary training they need to pursue their creative careers – the chance to make that new year’s resolution a reality.
We have many successful alumni from each of these schools, whether they’re contributing to the next Hollywood hit, bingeworthy TV series, or game of the year (literally!).
First off, our School of Animation (3D Animation & Visual Effects, Classical Animation, and Animation Concept Art) alumni were credited on the newest action sequel John Wick: Chapter 4, starring the beloved Keanu Reeves, along with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, two of the most popular animated films of the year. These animation programs are perfect for aspiring animators and VFX artists to hone their techniques in an industry-standard environment.
We’ve had alumni from our Acting for Film & Television, Makeup Design for Film & Television, and Film Production programs work on the new Goosebumps and The Fall of the House of Usher series, while Writing for Film, Television & Games alum worked on the award-winning video game Alan Wake 2. VFS Sound Design alumni have also worked on highly-rated games including Tchia – another winner at The Game Awards 2023. VFS’s School of Film & Television gives students a diverse skillset to work in a variety of creative mediums beyond just film and television.
Speaking of The Game Awards, alumni from our School of Games & Creative Design were credited on Baldur’s Gate 3, the 2023 Game of the Year. Programs in this ‘School’ include Game Design, Digital Design, Programming for Games, Web & Mobile, and VR/AR Design & Development. Besides crushing awards, these alumni also work for huge tech companies like Microsoft, Google, and Unity Technologies. This is the ‘School’ where innovative creatives thrive, explore technological processes, and create new worlds.
Whether you’re pursuing a career in film, games, television, design, or tech – the Future Scholarship covers it all. Apply by January 31 for your chance to join a network of award-winning alumni and train for your creative career!
