ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: 17 VFS alumni enter Marvel’s cinematic universe on ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’

By VFS, on September 10, 2024

One of cinema’s greatest features is the liberties that can be taken with a narrative. Take death, for instance; as we’ve seen many times – the dead do not always stay dead (American Horror Story: Coven, anyone?). Thanks to the ‘multiverse theory’, we were given a beautiful gift in 2024: the return of Wolverine! Although we lost our beloved Logan, portrayed by the incomparable Hugh Jackman, in 2017, he returned alongside Ryan Reynold’s for Deadpool & Wolverine – one of 2024’s biggest successes.

At Vancouver Film School, we’re always keeping an eye on the careers of our alumni and observing the remarkable impact they’re making every day in the entertainment industry and the creative industries at large. Therefore, we’re thrilled to announce that 17 VFS alumni were credited on Marvel’s latest hit!

17 VFS alumni are credited on Deadpool & Wolverine, currently the 2nd highest grossing film worldwide in 2024.

The 17 alumni credited on Deadpool & Wolverine are from VFS’s 3D Animation & Visual Effects, Animation Concept Art, and Foundation Visual Art & Design programs:

  • Rosa Hermosillo (3D Animation & Visual Effects)
  • Pimnara Vongsuphar (3D Animation & Visual Effects)
  • Yashvhanth Chandrasekaran (3D Animation & Visual Effects)
  • Angelo White (3D Animation & Visual Effects)
  • Arnand Kularajah (3D Animation & Visual Effects)
  • Sahil Oswal (3D Animation & Visual Effects)
  • Katie Williams (3D Animation & Visual Effects)
  • Angie Sohn (3D Animation & Visual Effects)
  • Casey Rolseth (3D Animation & Visual Effects)
  • PJ Park (3D Animation & Visual Effects)
  • Daniel Luna (3D Animation & Visual Effects)

  • Sean Kalra (Foundation Visual Art & Design and 3D Animation)
  • Chris McCrowe (Foundation Visual Art & Design and 3D Animation)
  • Pamela Francescut (Animation Concept Art)

Co-starring Emma Corrin (The Crown), Matthew Macfayden (Succession), Jon Favreau (Iron Man), & Morena Baccarin (Homeland) and featuring some HUGE cameos, Deadpool & Wolverine follows the ever-sarcastic, unpredictable, and profane Deadpool who has officially retired from the Superhero business. But when the Time Variance Authority (TVA) recruits him to save his deteriorating universe, he teams up with an equally reluctant Wolverine. Together, they face off against Cassandra Nova, Professor X’s evil twin, who poses a multiverse-wide threat.

Vancouver’s very own Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman *unofficially* compete for People’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ in this 2-hour-long, action-packed thrill ride.

Working on Deadpool & Wolverine is just the latest career success for this talented group of alumni. Though we wish we had the character count to list each and every credit, here’s a shortlist of the incredible projects these 17 alumni have worked on since graduating from VFS: Twisters, Avengers: Endgame, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, Spider-Man: No Way Home, WandaVision, The Flash, The Fall Guy, A Quiet Place: Day One, The Mandalorian, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and so many more!

A round of applause for our talented alumni for their incredible work on Deadpool & Wolverine. If this is just the beginning, we can’t imagine what’s coming next for each of you!
