Step 1: Research our Programs & Explore Your Options 

Before diving into the VFS application process, take time to explore VFS’s programs. Explore each program’s curriculum, specializations, and career paths to gauge which program(s) may be best for you. Whether you're interested in Film, Animation, Games, or Creative design, there’s a program tailored to your creative aspirations. 

Step 2: Connect with a VFS Advisor 

Our Advisors are here to guide you every step of the way through Vancouver Film School’s admissions process, from your initial questions to finalizing your application: 

1. Initial Contact: Complete a short online form, and we’ll match you with an Advisor who will be your go-to resource throughout the process. 

2. Getting to Know You: A friendly chat to discuss your creative & career goals and how VFS can help you achieve them. 

3. Navigating Requirements: Your Advisor will help you gather the necessary application documents and explain portfolio requirements specific to your program(s) of interest. 

4. Housing & Financing: Additionally, your Advisor will be able to assist with the finding you housing in/around Vancouver as well financing options for your tuition.

Step 3: Understand Admission Requirements 

You might be asking “what are the requirements for Vancouver Film School?” To apply, you’ll need to meet the universal VFS admissions requirements: 

  • Portfolio: Vancouver Film School’s portfolio requirements differ per program and can be viewed on each program page. Alternatively, completion of VFS’s Foundation Visual Art & Design Preparatory Program will satisfy this prerequisite. Your Advisor can walk you through how to prepare a portfolio for Vancouver Film School. 
  • Education: High school diploma or age 19+. 
  • Transcripts: Submit transcripts from schools attended in the last five years. 
  • References: Provide two references (non-family members) who can vouch for your passion and abilities. 

Step 4: Submit Your Application & Wait for the Results Call 

The only thing left is to submit your application – the culmination of all your hard work! Once your application is reviewed, your Advisor will call you with the results. This is often an emotional moment, and we’re thrilled to celebrate your hard work and acceptance into VFS. 

Step 5: Beyond the Application 

Your Advisor’s support doesn’t end when you’re accepted. From orientation to graduation (and even if you decide to return for an additional program!), they will continue to be available to support your creative journey. 

How to Apply to Vancouver Film School as an International Student 

Non-Canadian applicants will need: 

  • Study Permit: Required for all VFS programs. 
  • English Proficiency: Meet Level 1 or Level 2 requirements based on your program. 
  • Medical Coverage: Ensure you have health insurance.
