Vancouver Film School & ASUS partner to bring ProArt tech to Game Design students

By VFS, on February 19, 2025

Students at Vancouver Film School are provided with a unique opportunity: join the industry AT school. From our master industry instructors to the cutting-edge technology that is continually updated to match what professionals are using right now, VFS students are fully immersed in the industry while they’re training.

This is especially true when it comes to the many industry partnerships that VFS has forged over the years. From our partnerships with Adobe to Avid, Final Draft, Native Instruments, Unreal Engine, Unity, and so many more, our students have truly unlimited learning opportunities at their fingertips.

In late 2024, ASUS became the newest addition to Vancouver Film School’s industry partners, providing VFS with equipment from their ProArt line of computers. This high-performance creative hardware, meant for creative tech professionals, is now available to our current and future Game Design students, a clear indicator of why professional partnerships matter in creative education.

Go behind-the-scenes to see how ASUS ProArt technology is transforming our Game Design education for Vancouver Film School’s students:

ASUS PROART TECHNOLOGY IN VFS CLASSROOMS

Through this partnership, VFS has added the ProArt Armoury Workstation PC, ProArt PA278CGV monitors, and ASUS ProArt P16 laptops into its classrooms. These powerful tools, featuring the best computers for game design, enable our students to bring their creative visions to life with stunning visual fidelity and handle complex game engines with ease. By incorporating ProArt technology into their curriculum, Vancouver Film School ensures that students are equipped with the best tools to produce their professional-grade, retail-ready games during their year of training.

It’s our mandate and our mantra to help people enter the creative world” comments Christopher Mitchell, VFS’s Head of Game Design and Programming for Games, Web & Mobile. “Game design and art direction and programming techniques are essential in what we do, and technology is the medium we do it in. We always seek out the best equipment to give our students the best chance to succeed. Working with the ASUS team has been fantastic because we’re getting our hands on equipment which has just reached the market.”

VFS Game Design program alum Connor Roberts, Project Manager on Project: Haste – a Unity Student Award-nominated game he created alongside four other VFS students – got to test out some of this hardware for himself: “Absolutely wonderful and incredibly cool! Having that fantastic piece of kit meant I was able to produce so much faster.”

A HISTORY OF IMPACTFUL PARTNERSHIPS

Vancouver Film School has a long history of forging strong industry partnerships in creative education. Most prominent is our long-standing relationship with Beyond Capture Studios, a professional motion capture studio with locations in Montreal and right here on VFS’s campus in Vancouver! Students have access to this cutting-edge technology during their training – the same tech that’s been used by Beyond Capture to bring top projects to life like Dune: Part Two, Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 remake, and Compulsion’s upcoming South of Midnight.

Beyond Capture Studios' professional motion capture facility at Vancouver Film School, featuring high-tech cameras and a 64,000 cubic ft. mocap volume used for game development and film projects like Dune: Part Two. Beyond Capture Studios is a 64,000 cubic ft. motion capture volume located on VFS’s campus in Vancouver!

More recently, VFS announced a brand-new 12-week certificate program in Virtual Art Department Content Creation, developed by Sony’s Pixomondo (PXO) – an Academy and Emmy award-winning virtual production and visual effects company.

Thanks to Big Foot Studios, a full-service post-production sound studio in Vancouver, our Sound Design for Visual Media students have access to a professional sound mixing room.

And, in the automotive world, VFS’s 3D Animation & Visual Effects program previously worked with General Motors (GM Global Design) for an excitement reveal ad for the Chevrolet brand, while our VR/AR Design & Development students created a virtual training center for Tesla
