On Thursday,Barbara Martinez, the VFS Admissions Advisor for Latin America, and I visited with theEscuela de Diseñoat Universidad Anáhuac. The Design School is housed in a modern building with well-equipped classrooms and lovely common spaces, which include a gorgeous student gallery/common area.
We were fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of some classes in-session to see courses like Portfolio Review and Final Project Workshop, and I loved exploring the student gallery, which currently showcases projects that commemorate the bicentennial. These impressive pieces are compiled in a lovely bound book entitled El Bicentenario, A La Luz Del Diseño.
During our tour, we met with Ricardo Salas, the Director of the Design School, along with key members of his faculty, to discuss closer ties between our two educational institutions, including the potential of one-week faculty exchanges to promote the exchange of ideas and instructional methods, as well as provide new sources of inspiration for our students. I see many synergies between our two programs and am excited for our upcoming collaboration. Afterwards, I presented an overview of the VFS Digital Design program to students.
Later that evening, VFS hosted a Digital Design Open House. It was a chance for prospective students and their parents to learn more about the program, the benefits of an industry-focused curriculum, and life in Vancouver. It was eye-opening to speak with many of the parents and learn about their wishes and fears - their keen desire to see their children study abroad in a cosmopolitan city like Vancouver, their concern about being separated by so much distance and the worry that the investment is a worthwhile learning experience that's rewarding and results in a career that has longevity.
